Speech Therapy Guidance for Parents and Professionals

Sound Adventure is for practice and fun. It does not diagnose speech, language or communication needs and doesn't replace a qualified Speech and Language Therapist.

Every child is different

Children learn sounds at different ages. Not being able to say a sound yet doesn't on its own mean something is wrong.

Keep it short and fun

A few minutes a day, with breaks, works better than long sessions. Praise effort, not just results.

Model, don't correct

If a word comes out differently, say it back clearly and warmly ("Yes, a rabbit!") rather than asking them to repeat it.

Use your therapist's targets

If your child sees a Speech and Language Therapist, add their target sounds and words in Adult setup and include their instructions as notes.

All communication counts

Pointing, signing, pictures and AAC are all valid ways to take part. Speaking out loud is optional in this app.

When to ask for advice

If you're worried about your child's speech, understanding or communication, talk to your GP, health visitor, school SENCo, or your local NHS children's Speech and Language Therapy service — many accept self-referrals.
